Zeolite Filtration for Swimming Pools

Natural zeolite is the new ideal filter medium (ZeoSand) for swimming pools in replacement of sand. Zeolite has many advantages over sand due to its high porosity, durability and cation exchange capacity. Zeolite can remove contaminants such as dissolved ammonia that sand and DE filters simply cannot handle. ZeoSand is approved for swimming pools and spas (ANSI/NSF Standard 50).

1) Sand filters remove particles down from 100 to 40 microns in size.Zeolite filters remove particles down to 3 microns,which is equivalent to a DE filter. Dead skin and blood cells are smaller than 9 microns and cannot be trapped with sand or cartridge filters. 2) Zeolite is a non-leaching, antimicrobial, and will remove over 90% of viruses, bacteria algae, and cryptosporidium from your pool. Zeolite reduces eye irritation. In addition to filtering skin and blood cells, Zeolite also absorbs chloromines, nitrates, ammoniaŹ phosphates, iron, manganese and filters giardia cyst and 75% of the bacteria known to man. 3) Dissolved ammonia reacts with chlorine to form chloramines which cause eyeirritation and odours in pool water. Zeolites remove dissolved ammonium ionsthrough ion exchange which neither sand nor DE filters can provide. 4) Zeolite filters require fewer backwash cycles than sand filters. The backwashcycles are shorter therefore less water, power and maintenance is required. 5) Natural zeolites offer improved water quality, easier maintenance and reduced water usage. Zeolites also offer the added benefit of ammonia removal. Natural zeolite is set to become the new swimming pool filter medium for the 21st century.
